Lahore, the heart of Punjab, is the second-most populous city in Pakistan with approximately 11 million residents and a growth rate of 4%. This rapid increase in population, driven largely by migration, has placed a significant strain on the city's healthcare infrastructure. The population-to-hospital bed ratio falls short of recommended levels, and the emergency services are in dire need of enhancement.
Lady Willingdon Hospital, a cornerstone of Lahore's healthcare system, has been struggling to meet the growing demands. A recent survey conducted by the C&W department highlighted the structural deficiencies of the hospital's old buildings, including the indoor block, nursing hostel, doctors' flats, and hostels. These facilities have raised serious safety concerns. Additionally, the hospital is unable to provide the necessary healthcare services due to large patient influx, scarcity of resources and non-functional equipment.
In response to these challenges, IDAP has initiated Reconstruction of Lady Willingdon Hospital. This project aims to elevate the standards of healthcare, particularly for women and infants.
Project Objectives
1. Enhance Healthcare Standards for Women and Infants: The project will provide state-of-the-art facilities and services aimed at improving maternal health and reducing mortality rates.
2. Training and Research Hub: The hospital will serve as a training ground for doctors in emergency obstetrical skills, gynecological sub-specialties (such as assisted reproduction, urogynecology, gynecological oncology, and fetal medicine), and medical ethics.
3. Health Services and Advanced Facilities: The hospital will be equipped with modern facilities, including:
The hospital's enhanced capabilities will not only meet the current healthcare demands but also set a benchmark for future
