A Vision for Better Heart Health: Establishing a 250-Bed Punjab Institute of Cardiology II, Lahore

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of non-communicable disease-related deaths in Pakistan, accounting for 31% of all mortality. Over the past decade, heart disease prevalence has surged, posing a significant burden on both health and economy, especially among younger individuals.

Since its establishment in 1990, the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has been the sole specialized cardiac institute for Lahore and nearby regions. However, with a population exceeding 10 million in Lahore alone and around 90 million in the province, PIC struggles to meet the increasing demand, leading to long waiting lists for cardiac procedures and strained emergency services.

In response to this pressing need, the establishment of Punjab Institute of Cardiology II in Lahore is underway. The hospital is geared towards easing the escalating influx of emergency heart patients while delivering comprehensive cardiac care services to Lahore and its surrounding areas. Its primary objectives include tackling the rise in heart diseases and providing timely specialized care. By closing the gap in healthcare infrastructure, the hospital endeavors to enhance the quality of life, aiming to diminish morbidity and mortality rates linked with heart conditions and thereby uplifting the well-being of millions. Designed as a cutting-edge, seven-story facility with a basement, this hospital is poised to accommodate 250 beds, ensuring access to top-tier cardiology and cardiac surgical services.

The Punjab Institute of Cardiology II, will offer the following facilities:

  • Cardiac Emergency Services: Dedicated emergency units for swift responses to critical situations.
